Dr. Shelvy L. Campbell-Monroe develops culture and belonging programming, community outreach and partnerships for the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Marshall University School of Pharmacy. In this role, she works to ensure a quality and inclusive environment for all students, faculty and staff.
A veteran of higher education administration, Dr. Campbell has served in several positions at Marshall University over the past 30 years. She worked for Marshall University’s South Charleston campus for more than a decade as the Graduate Records and Admissions Supervisor. Dr. Campbell also served for many years as the Civil Rights and Equity Compliance Administrator at West Virginia State University R&D Corporation.
Dr. Campbell serves as the Director of two summer student residential pathway programs which were created to attract underrepresented students of color to the medical, pharmacy and other health care fields. She serves as an advisor for Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Health Spectrum Alliance (LBGT student organization) and Student National Medical Association (SNMA), the School of Medicine’s Multicultural Advisor Committee and School of Pharmacy Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Campbell also serves on the University Women of Color Committee and as part of the Marshall University Title IX Team of Advisors and Investigators.
Dr. Campbell is a member of several community, state and national organizational boards and councils including: West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services; serves as the National Program Chair for the National Association of Medical Minority Educators (NAMME), West Virginia Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs Advisory Board and is a member of the Dunbar Athletic Booster Club, Inc.
Dr. Campbell holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from West Virginia State University, a master’s degree in industrial and employee relations from Marshall University, an education specialist degree from Marshall, a doctorate in education with a specialization in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University and a Masters in Public Health from George Washington University.
