Primary Care Sports Medicine Track

Must apply after acceptance to the MU family medicine program

Goals – To provide individuals with enhanced musculoskeletal and sports medicine knowledge and experience.  To make residents competitive applicants for primary care sports medicine fellowship positions.

PGY-I

  • Assignment to area high school to provide event coverage with upper-level residents, sports medicine fellows, and attending
  • Opportunity to cover local, state, and regional sporting events as schedule allows
  • Dedicated month long elective in sports medicine in spring of Intern year
  • Participation in scholarly activity projects
  • Participation in sports medicine journal club with sports medicine fellow
  • Participation in high school pre-participation physicals

PGY-II

  • Assignment to area high school as resident team physician
  • Training room coverage at area high school with sports medicine fellow and attendings
  • Opportunity to cover local, state, and regional sporting events as schedule allows
  • Dedicated month long elective in sports medicine in September of 2nd year
  • Participation in scholarly activity projects
  • Participation in sports medicine journal club with sports medicine fellow
  • Participation in sports medicine lecture series for fellowship
  • Training room coverage at Kentucky Christian University during Spring Semester
  • Residency support to AMSSM national meeting for presentation of scholarly activity
  • Participation in high school and college pre-participation physicals

PGY-III

  • Assignment to area high school as resident team physician
  • Training room coverage at area high school with sports medicine fellow and attendings
  • Opportunity to oversee physician coverage of local, state, and regional sporting events as schedule allows
  • Dedicated month long elective in sports medicine in August of 3rd year
  • Participation in scholarly activity projects
  • Participation in sports medicine journal club with sports medicine fellow
  • Participation in sports medicine lecture series for fellowship
  • Training room coverage at Kentucky Christian University
  • Residency support to AMSSM national meeting for presentation of scholarly activity
  • Participation in high school and college pre-participation physicals
