Salary & Compensation

Signing Bonus: $2,000 signing bonus for categorical positions matched through the NRMP.
Travel Support: Gas stipend included to assist with commuting costs between training sites.

Insurance Benefits

Malpractice Coverage: Comprehensive coverage provided through the State of West Virginia's "Comprehensive Liability Insurance Policy."
Group Term Life Insurance: Fully provided policy equal to 1.25% of annualized stipend (minimum $50,000) plus a $10,000 basic life policy, for a total of at least $60,000 in coverage. Additional life insurance can be purchased for the resident and their dependents.
Health Insurance: Variety of plans available ranging from $85/month to $520/month depending on coverage and tobacco use status.
Flexible Benefits: Pre-tax dental and vision options available.
Workers' Compensation: Full coverage provided.
Social Security & Visa Tax Exemption: Standard employer and employee social security contributions. International medical graduates who provide a copy of their J-1 Visa to administration are exempt from social security taxes.

Annual Leave: 15 days per academic year.
Sick Leave: 15 days per academic year.
Educational Leave: 5 days per year to attend approved professional meetings, conferences, or post-graduate courses. Up to 3 days may be used for fellowship or job interviews.

Department provides key textbooks during intern year (PGY-1).
APA membership dues are fully paid by the department for residents in years PGY 2–4 (dues are waived for the first year of membership).

Conference & Travel Reimbursement: Reimbursement for reasonably priced air travel and up to 2 nights of lodging (the night before and the night of the presentation) is provided for residents who are the primary presenter for a poster or other presentation at the conference as approved by the program director.

Provided lunches multiple times a week during didactic lectures and other events.
Complimentary snacks, coffee, and beverages are available across our primary training sites.
Free meals or dedicated meal funds provided while rotating at St. Mary's Medical Center, Cabell Huntington Hospital, and Rivers Health.

Welcome picnic during orientation for new residents, current residents, attendings, staff, and families.
Movie nights, Super Bowl party, departmental potlucks, and regular wellness events throughout the year.

Spring Wellness Week: Includes a protected week off from educational lectures.

Annual Resident Retreat: Dedicated time away from regular clinical duties and lectures, giving residents time to bond with peers and enjoy a fun group activity.
