Two Programs. One Shared Mission.

Marshall proudly offers two ACGME-accredited General Psychiatry Residency Programs, each providing exceptional training while offering unique clinical experiences and career opportunities.

We strongly encourage applicants to apply to both programs. Residents from each program train together throughout much of residency, sharing faculty, didactics, conferences, and many clinical experiences. While each program has distinct training opportunities, both are committed to preparing residents for successful careers in every area of psychiatry.

General Psychiatry Residency

Our Huntington-based residency is a fully ACGME-accredited, four-year program with 32 residents and eight PGY-1 positions each year.

Residents train at a diverse network of clinical sites, including:

• Marshall Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic
• Cabell Huntington Hospital
• St. Mary's Medical Center
• Huntington VA Medical Center
• Mildred Mitchell Bateman Hospital
• River Park Hospital

This variety of training environments allows residents to care for diverse patient populations while developing the skills and confidence to practice in virtually any psychiatric setting.

Rural Psychiatry Residency

Marshall is also proud to offer a fully ACGME-accredited Rural Psychiatry Residency Program, located in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

This innovative program includes 16 residents with four PGY-1 positions annually and prepares physicians to become leaders in rural and underserved mental health care.

Residents spend approximately half of their training in Huntington alongside residents in the General Psychiatry Residency and half in Point Pleasant, where they provide care in communities with significant mental health needs.

Internship includes neurology, emergency medicine, and internal/family medicine rotations at Rivers Health, while upper-level residents complete outpatient continuity experiences in Point Pleasant, providing unique exposure to rural psychiatric practice and integrated behavioral healthcare.

Residents graduate with the confidence to practice in any psychiatric setting while gaining invaluable experience caring for underserved populations.
