Nesreen BenHamed, MD, serves as the Section Chief, Program Director, and the Director of Education for the Endocrinology Department at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at MUSOM and a staff physician at Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. Dr.BenHamed is Board certified in General Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She is certified in Bone Densitometry by ISCD and performs fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules. Her specialized services and interests include adult diabetes, thyroid disorders, thyroid cancer, adrenal diseases, pituitary conditions, and bone metabolic diseases such as osteoporosis. She is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Academy of Master Educators.


Henry Driscoll, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at MUSOM and an Attending Physician at Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. He is Board certified in General Internal Medicine and Board certified in Endocrinology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. His research interest is in the immunopathogenesis of diabetes, and he has authored articles or participated in studies in this area in the mechanisms of pancreatic islet-cell hormone secretion, effects of nutritional deficiency, therapies for diabetes, effects of hypoglycemia on the heart, and thyroid cancer. At Marshall University he has served as Associate Director (1989-1994) and Director (1994-2001) of the Internal Medicine Clerkship, Acting Chief and Chief of the Endocrinology Section (2007-2019), Farrell Professor of Endocrinology (2010-2019) and Chair of the Institutional Review Board. He is a member of the Endocrine Society, Sigma Xi, the American Federation for Medical Research, the American Medical Association, the West Virginia State Medical Association, the Cabell County Medical Society, and the Norval Carter Memorial Medical Society. He is also a member of the Professional Section of the American Diabetes Association and has served as President of its local, state, and regional affiliated organizations.


Henin A. Alsamarraie, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Marshall University School of Medicine and is a staff physician at Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. Dr. Alsamarraie's clinical interests include treating patients with endocrine-related conditions and disorders including diabetes mellitus, metabolic and nutritional disorders, bone disorders, thyroid disorders, pituitary diseases, and adrenal diseases. Dr. Alsamarraie is Board certified in General Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.


Maria G. Luzuriaga, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Marshall University School of Medicine and is a staff physician at Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. Dr. Luzuriaga is Board certified in General Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. Her clinical interests include general endocrinology, with a special interest in behavioral health and diabetes. She is very involved in the education of our internal medicine residents and endocrinology fellows. She is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, the National Lipid Association, and the American Diabetes Association.


Mateen Hotiana M.D is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Marshall University School of Medicine and is a staff physician at Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. Dr. Hotiana’s clinical interests include diabetes mellitus, bone disorders, thyroid disorders, pituitary diseases, and adrenal diseases. He works closely with the endocrinology fellows and internal medicine residents during their inpatient rotations. Dr. Hotiana is Board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.


Yanina G Nikolaus, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Marshall University School of Medicine and is a staff physician at Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. Dr. Nikolaus is Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty certification in Cytopathology. Her clinical interests include head and neck and breast pathology. She is very involved in the education of our medical students and teaching fine needle aspiration to our endocrinology fellows. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists.
