HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Jenna Richards, D.O., has been named Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Resident of the Month for December, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education at the school.

“It is always exciting to have residents nominate their peers for Resident of the Month,” Wehner said. “To be nominated by your peers for your teaching ability, outstanding compassionate patient care and hard-working nature is truly the ultimate compliment for any physician.”

One nominator wrote that Richards “has a positive attitude all the time, treats everyone from peers to staff with respect. She is very knowledgeable and likes to teach her co-residents and medical students and will be an excellent pediatrician after she completes residency.” Another commented, “Dr. Richards loves taking care of children and does it with an open heart and mind, caring for every aspect of their health. She is definitely someone I look at as an example of human being and physician.”

Richards is completing the third and final year of her pediatrics residency at Marshall. The Kentucky native graduated from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, and obtained her medical degree from the University of Lincoln DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tennessee. After graduation, she plans on joining her father’s practice in Richmond, Kentucky.  

“Dr. Richards is a very good team player who is well liked by co-residents, nurses and attendings,” said Susan L. Flesher, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics and residency program director. “She has really become involved in quality improvement. As such, Dr. Richards represents our program on the House Staff Quality Improvement Council and two of our accreditation self-study improvement teams.”

As part of her recognition as the December Resident of the Month, Richards received a plaque and designated parking spot.
