- Mentoring Across the Continuum: Incorporating Inclusive Practice to Foster Academic Success
Mentoring is critical for promoting success in academia. Specific benefits of mentoring include socio-emotional and psychosocial support, skills development, professional progress, and short-term and long-term career advancement and success. The mentoring support of personal and professional growth can result in improved competencies that support individual and career advancement. Knowing how to establish high-quality mentoring relationships and effectively mentor across different backgrounds can be difficult. Although mentoring relationships that acknowledge issues of power and privilege across race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and generational differences can be challenging to navigate, open dialogue about these topics is paramount to success for both mentors and mentees.
