To contact the LCME:
The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is the nationally recognized accrediting body for medical education programs in the United States and Canada that lead to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Accreditation ensures that medical schools meet rigorous standards for education, faculty qualifications, student support and institutional resources.
At the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, we are proud to be fully accredited by the LCME, which is sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the American Medical Association (AMA). Our most recent accreditation review in 2019 resulted in full accreditation for an eight-year term, affirming our commitment to educational excellence and ongoing enhancement of the medical student experience.
Accreditation is not just a milestone—it is a process of continuous quality enhancement. At the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, we actively assess and refine our programs to ensure students receive the highest level of medical education. This includes:
Our commitment to continuous quality improvement ensures that we prepare future physicians to be competent, compassionate and adaptable in an ever-evolving health care landscape.
The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine will welcome the LCME to campus for our next site visit during the 2026-2027 academic year, as part of our accreditation process. This is an important time for us to showcase how our school not only meets but surpasses the standards in medical education, ultimately benefiting our students and enhancing the health of all West Virginians. The Accreditation and Quality Enhancement Steering Committee (AQESC) works with strategic partners in academic and clinical leadership throughout Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine to oversee the LCME accreditation process.
