School of Medicine recognizes outstanding achievement during annual awards

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine celebrated the outstanding achievements of faculty, residents and students in the fields of education, research and clinical care during its Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, December 12.

Darshana T. Shah, Ph.D., senior associate dean for faculty advancement, highlighted the importance of recognizing excellence and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the medical community.

The following awards were presented for excellence in:

Education

  • Distinguished Teacher of the Year:  Todd Green, Ph.D., associate professor, Biomedical Sciences
  • Outstanding Resident Teacher of the Year: Trenton Hayes, M.D., Family Medicine
  • Aspiring Teacher of the Year: Calyb King, MS-4

Research

  • Distinguished Researcher of the Year: Price Dickson, Ph.D., assistant professor, Biomedical Sciences
  • Outstanding Resident Researcher of the Year: Andy Schaver, M.D., Orthopaedics
  • Aspiring Researcher of the Year: Alex Simpkins, MS-3

Clinical Care

  • Distinguished Clinician of the Year: Wesam Frandah, M.D., associate professor, Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology
  • Outstanding Resident Clinician of the Year: Emma Nellhaus, M.D., Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Aspiring Clinician of the Year: Paige Kisling, MS-4
