- Drs. Akhigbe, Hamdani, Ikram and Reed named Residents of the Month
Huntington, W.Va. – The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine recognized the following resident physicians in May: Jatto E. Akhigbe, M.D., Teseir Hamdani, MBBCh, Hafiz Zarsham Ikram, MBBS, and Jared Reed, M.D.
Dr. Akhigbe is finishing his fourth year of Marshall’s medicine-pediatrics residency program. He earned his M.D. at Lagos State University College of Medicine in Nigeria. Upon completion of his residency in June, he will continue his training as a cardiology fellow at The Ohio State University.
“Dr. Akhigbe demonstrates excellence in professionalism, medical knowledge, scholarly activity, mentoring and leadership within the institution and community with his indefatigable work ethic and perseverance,” said Elizabeth Saunders, M.D., associate professor and director of the medicine-pediatrics residency program at Marshall.
Dr. Hamdani is finishing his third year of Marshall’s internal medicine residency. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tripoli in Libya. After graduation, he plans to complete an endocrinology fellowship at Indiana University in Indianapolis.
“Dr. Hamdani is an innovative thinker who never gets tired of finding solutions to problems,” said Eva Patton Tackett, M.D., associate professor and director of the internal medicine residency program at Marshall.
Dr. Ikram is finishing his third year of Marshall’s internal medicine residency. He earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Pakistan. After graduation, he plans to remain at Marshall to complete a gastroenterology fellowship
“Dr. Ikram is a natural care giver. From patients to younger resident physicians to medical students, he is always available and helpful,” said Paulette Wehner, M.D., vice dean of graduate medical education at Marshall.
Dr. Reed is finishing his third year of Marshall’s internal medicine residency. He completed his M.D. at East Tennessee State University. After graduation, he plans to complete a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
“Dr. Reed finds the positive in every situation and every person. He has an amazing ability to lift people up,” said Dr. Patton Tackett. “Drs. Hamdani, Ikram and Reed all served as chief residents this year and have done amazing job guiding their colleagues and always looking for ways to improve.”
As part of their Resident of the Month recognition, all four resident physicians received plaques and designated parking spots.
