WE ARE... a fully accredited 3-year program with the opportunity for advanced subspecialty training in Interventional Cardiology. Marshall is a strong clinical program, designed to provide fellows with expert clinical skills in all areas of cardiovascular medicine and to offer significant experience in research. Our environment is collegial and friendly, teamwork among fellows is a long-standing priority.
Located in the "Cardiovascular Disease Capital" of the US, our fellows benefit from a large clinical volume and exposure to a wide range of cardiovascular diseases. Our program strives to provide the best educational experience in an environment that assures a balance between academic and clinical activities.
As Sir William Osler said, "He who studies medicine without books sails an uncharted sea, but he who studies medicine without patients does not go to sea at all." We take great pride in our success in preparing residents to become the next generation of expert cardiologists.
The Fellowship Experience
Exceptional Procedural Exposure: Our fellows benefit from an extraordinary volume of procedures, providing unmatched hands-on experience in this critical area of cardiology. Our graduates average over 500 cardiac catheterization procedures in their time here. Additionally, we read hundreds of echo’s, nuclear images, and vascular studies, including ABI's, venous studies, and carotid duplex, during training. Extensive TEE exposure is also available.
Subspecialty Training Opportunities: for those interested in further specialization, we offer a subspecialty fellowship in interventional cardiology, building upon the foundational skills acquired during the general cardiology fellowship.
Certifications in Echo, Vascular, and Nuclear Cardiology: Our fellows have the opportunity to achieve Level 2 Certification in Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology, preparing them for board eligibility in these important subspecialties. Interested fellows can qualify for the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI)®. This requires some extra reading but is easily done with some effort.
