The traditional White Coat Ceremony for medical students was established by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation in 1993 and has been held at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine since 1996. The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage for medical students that marks their entry into the medical profession. It usually takes place at the beginning of medical school and symbolizes the student's commitment to professionalism, excellence and empathy.
