Meet Our Team

Shelvy L. Campbell-Monroe, PhD MPH
Associate Dean for Student Outreach & Engagement

Dr. Shelvy L. Campbell-Monroe develops student outreach and engagement programming, community outreach and partnership opportunities for the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. In this role, she works to ensure a high-quality environment that promotes fairness, access and opportunity for all students, faculty and staff.

A veteran of higher education administration, Dr. Campbell has served in several positions at Marshall University during the past 30 years, including more than a decade as the graduate records and admissions supervisor for Marshall University’s South Charleston campus. Dr. Campbell also served for many years as the Civil Rights and Equity Compliance Administrator at West Virginia State University R&D Corporation.

Dr. Campbell currently leads two summer student residential pathway programs at Marshall University for students aspiring to enter the medical, pharmacy and other health care fields. She also advises multiple student organizations and serves on the Marshall University Women of Color Committee and Marshall University Title IX Team of Advisors and Investigators.

Dr. Campbell is an active member of several community, state and national organizations, including the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services. She serves as the National Past President for the National Association of Medical Minority Educators (NAMME), is a member of the West Virginia Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs Advisory Board, and is involved with the Dunbar Athletic Booster Club, Inc.

Dr. Campbell holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from West Virginia State University, a master’s degree in industrial and employee relations from Marshall University, an education specialist degree from Marshall, a doctorate in education with a specialization in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University and a Master of Public Health from George Washington University.
