The following is a brief overview of the Child and Adolescent Fellowship program by training year:
F1: Child fellows complete their outpatient experiences. Outpatient will include 2 full days of supervised general child psychiatry clinic, 1 half day of supervised child psychotherapy clinic, 1 half day of Pediatric Neurology (6 months), 1 half day of Developmental Peds (3 months), 1 half day of Elective (3 months) and 1 day of school-based clinic (9 months). For the 3 months school is on summer break you will spend that time in your Child Forensic experience through the child advocacy center and the Last Friday of the month in the Autism Training Center Clinic where you will observe comprehensive Autism Evaluations to include Speech, OT, and Psychological Evaluations. Once a month for a half day you will also participate in the Gender Affirming Clinic with Pediatrics.
F2: Child fellows will complete their inpatient experiences. Inpatient will include Child Psychiatry Consults and two Residential Treatment Centers (RTC). You will see Child Consults at Cabell Huntington Hospital/Hoops Family Children's Hospital and the Emergency Room 5 half days a week for 6 months. You will spend 4 half days a week for 6 months on the male adolescent sex offender’s unit (RTC) at River Park Hospital. You will spend 4 half days a week for 12 months at Barbourville School RTC which is a level 4 RTC that provides mental health services for teens ages 12-17 who have demonstrated harm to self or others.
Child Fellows will learn to evaluate, treat and appreciate children and adolescents with mental health disorders. Didactics take place at Marshall Psychiatry outpatient clinic 1 half day a week.
