Marshall Clinical Research Center

The Marshall Clinical Research Center (MCRC) is advances access to innovative and effective medical treatments for individuals and families throughout our Tri-State region — including West Virginia, Southern Ohio and Eastern Kentucky. We are committed to making cutting-edge care available close to home, so that our neighbors do not have to travel far to receive the best possible options for their health and well-being.

Since its inception, the MCRC has played a vital role in developing and supporting numerous clinical trials, bringing hope and improved treatments to hundreds of patients in our community. Every study we lead is conducted with an unwavering commitment to safety, ethical practices, and research that prioritizes the needs of our local population.

We invite everyone in our region to visit our website regularly to learn about ongoing and upcoming clinical trials that may offer new possibilities for you or your loved ones.

As part of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University, the MCRC is designed to foster collaboration among our physicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals. Our dedicated team — including experienced investigators, clinicians, and support staff — works together to deliver the latest advancements in medical care to those we serve.

Guiding Principles

Long-Term Engagement: The MCRC values lasting relationships with our research investigators. We are committed to building enduring partnerships with researchers across the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.

Mutual Benefit: We recognize the challenges and responsibilities of serving as a principal investigator. Our goal is to create a supportive environment that enhances each partner’s research efforts, professional growth, and reputation.

Professionalism: Our staff is dedicated to working with humility, transparency, and respect. We honor the diverse expertise and cultural backgrounds of both researchers and community members in all of our interactions.

Shared Responsibility: All partners—researchers, staff and community collaborators—share a collective responsibility to the patients, the project, the community, and one another.

Integrity: Every decision we make is guided by a commitment to best practices, data integrity, participant safety, and the highest standards of medical ethics and scientific rigor.

Clinical research coordinators (CRCs) at Marshall Health play a vital role in the success of every clinical trial by serving as the central point of coordination between investigators, patients, sponsors and regulatory bodies.

A hands-on coordinator is essential to a highly functional clinical trial team—ensuring that each study runs smoothly from startup to closeout. From patient recruitment and informed consent to data collection, regulatory compliance, and protocol adherence, CRCs manage the day-to-day operations that keep trials on track. Their proactive engagement allows for quick issue resolution, enhanced patient retention, and clear communication across all stakeholders. At Marshall, our clinical coordinators are deeply involved in every step of the research process, providing the attention to detail and personal touch that elevate the quality and reliability of our clinical research.
