Sponsorships, tickets available for Standing Out in Our Field 11

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine will host the region’s most unique outdoor dining experience, Standing Out in Our Field 11, Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Barboursville Soccer Complex.

The annual medical student scholarship fundraiser draws hundreds for a picturesque and laid-back evening under the stars. Presented by title sponsor Marshall Health Network, this year’s event features a “Disco Fever” theme. Festivities kick off with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by an evening of dinner & dancing from 7 to 11 p.m., accompanied by the vibrant tunes of the band, Santa Cruz.

“Standing Out in Our Field blends fun and philanthropy in a unique way,” said Linda S. Holmes, associate dean for development & alumni affairs at the medical school. “It is a time to celebrate and make a meaningful impact on the future of health care.”

All proceeds from the annual event support medical student scholarships. This year’s event co-hosts, David Gozal, M.D., M.B.A., Ph.D. (Hon), vice president for health affairs and dean of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University, and his wife, Elaine Gozal, MSc, set a goal to raise $150,000 for the school’s scholarship endowment.

“Scholarships do more than help students afford an education—they open doors for future physicians and health professionals who will go on to serve communities throughout our region and beyond,” Dr. Gozal said. “We invite alumni, friends and community partners to join us in supporting the next generation of health care leaders through this special evening. This is undoubtedly a great investment in making the world a better place.”
