School of Medicine to host ‘Outstanding in Our Field 3’ June 4
Farm-to-table-themed event raises funds for student scholarships

PROCTORVILLE, Ohio – A picturesque setting on a farm in rural Proctorville, Ohio, is the ideal backdrop for one of the region’s most interesting annual fundraisers.

The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine will host Outstanding in Our Field 3, co-sponsored by Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saturday, June 4. This year’s event will feature farm-to-table cuisine, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. and followed by dinner and dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. The scholarship fundraiser will be hosted at the home of Dr. Bobby Miller (Class of 1997) and Eric Hardin-Miller.

This farm-to-table dining experience will feature Kevin Fowler, president and CEO of Cabell Huntington Hospital, as chef; Dr. Joseph Shapiro, dean of the School of Medicine, as sous chef; Don Sallada of Cabell Huntington Hospital as executive chef; and Judge Dan O’Hanlon as sommelier. Dinner will be served by current medical school students.

Music will be provided by “The Jillettes” with Dr. Donnah Wolodkin Whitaker (Class of 1984). Attire is “country casual.”

Proceeds from the annual event, now in its third year, go to provide much-needed support for medical student scholarships. This year, event chairs Jimmy and Julie Todd have set a goal to raise $100,000.

Event sponsors to date, in addition to co-sponsors Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center, include Thomas Health System, Valley Health, Maxor National Pharmacy Services Company, Dr. and Mrs. Maurice A. Mufson, Radiology Inc., Retina Consultants, Farrell, White & Legg PLLC,  Galaxy Distributing of West Virginia, HIMG and Pleasant Valley Hospital (MSI). Additional sponsors include Highmark West Virginia; Bon Secours – Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital; Edward Tucker Architects Inc.; Joseph P. Assaley, M.D.; Marshall Health; and WoodmenLife.

Tickets are $125 per person. Additional sponsorships are available. To make a reservation, please contact Tami Fletcher at 304-691-1701 or fletcher@marshall.edu. For more information, go to https://jcesom.marshall.edu/alumni-giving/outstanding-in-our-field/.
