School of Medicine alumni awarded for outstanding medical care by veterans

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Tariq Latif, M.D., and Blake Epling, M.D., graduates of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, were recently presented Bronze Oak Leaf Awards from the Hershel “Woody” Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington.

Recipients of the award are nominated by a veteran in recognition of their outstanding customer service.

Latif was nominated by a veteran under his medical care during his recent sub-internship. After graduating from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in 2018, Latif began his internal medicine residency with Marshall in July.

Epling, a 2013 graduate of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, recently completed an endocrinology fellowship at Marshall. He completed his residency at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Epling is now practicing at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
