Rachel E. Edwards, M.D., recognized as August Resident of the Month 

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Rachel E. Edwards, M.D., has been selected as the August 2016 Resident of the Month, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.   

“This is an exciting moment in the recognition of Marshall’s residents,” Wehner said. “One of our volunteer clinical faculty members took the time to nominate a resident who assisted with a very difficult delivery.   His nomination spoke of the invaluable service that Dr. Edwards and the resident team provide.   It is moments like this that we can be extremely proud of the quality of our residents.”  

Kevin J. Conaway, M.D., obstetrics and gynecology residency director, said that the role of community faculty members is critical to resident training.

“Our residents receive extensive procedural experience with volunteer community faculty members during dedicated community obstetrical and gynecology rotations,” Conaway said.  “We are extremely grateful for physicians who take the time to provide one-on-one teaching and give us feedback on our residents.  Dr. Edwards is a most deserving recipient of the award, the first of its kind from a nomination by a volunteer faculty member.”   

Edwards graduated from the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and is completing her third year as an obstetrics/gynecology resident.  Before medical school, Edwards received her undergraduate degree in biology from West Virginia University and graduated with honors from Cabell Midland High School.

As part of her recognition as the August Resident of the Month, Edwards will receive items including a Certificate of Recognition and a designated parking spot.
