Pessoa awarded fellowship with American Heart Association

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marco T. Pessoa, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow at the Marshall Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, was awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship with the American Heart Association.

As part of the fellowship, Pessoa will continue his research on the relationship between Na,K-ATPase signaling and cardiac physiology. The study will assess energy production to evaluate if Na,K-ATPase assists in regulating the energy balance in the heart. This research could lead to new interventions or treatment modalities for heart failure patients.

Pessoa earned his doctoral degree in health sciences and biochemistry and molecular biology from Universidade Federal de Sao Joao del-Rei, Divinopolis, MG, Brazil.
