- New specialists join Marshall School of Medicine, Marshall Health

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine recently welcomed five new specialists to its clinical faculty in the departments of neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopaedics, psychiatry and behavioral medicine and surgery.
The new physicians are:
Jared Brownfield, M.D., a general obstetrician and gynecologist, has been appointed assistant professor. Brownfield, an Ona native, earned his medical degree from Marshall University, where he also completed a residency. He is accepting new patients at Marshall OB/GYN’s Marshall University Medical Center, an outpatient department of Cabell Huntington Hospital, as well as the Route 60 and Teays Valley locations. Edward A. Dachowski Jr., M.D., a fellowship-trained, board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, joins the department of psychiatry and behavioral medicine, as an assistant professor. Dachowski has nearly 20 years of experience in providing mental health and behavioral medicine services to children of all ages. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, followed by a psychiatry residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with subspecialty certification in child and adolescent psychiatry. Juan R. Sanabria, M.D., a fellowship-trained, board-certified surgical oncologist, joins the department of surgery as a professor. Sanabria specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, including cancers of the liver, pancreas, gall bladder and kidneys. He earned his medical degree from the Colegio Mayor de Ntra Sra del Rosario in Bogotá, Columbia. In addition, he completed the MD International Medical Graduate Program at the University of Toronto and fellowships in the Epidemiology Unit G.I. Cancer Registry at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and the HPB and Transplant Surgery Multi-Organ Transplant Unit at the University of Toronto. He was most recently on the medical staff at Cancer Treatment Centers of America and faculty at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Vikram Shivkumar, M.D., a fellowship-trained neurologist, joins the department of neurology as an assistant professor. Shivkumar specializes in movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease. He earned his medical degree from M.G.M. Medical College, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Maharashtra, India, followed by a neurology residency and movement disorder fellowship, both at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. Also joining Marshall Orthopaedics is surgical podiatrist James L. Thomas, DPM, as a professor of orthopaedics.Thomas earned his degree from California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco and trained at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
