New primary care physicians join Marshall Health, School of Medicine

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Six primary care physicians recently joined the clinical faculty of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Marshall Health. The new faculty additions all recently completed residencies at the Marshall School of Medicine.

“Establishing with a primary care physician is important for your overall health,” said Stephen M. Petrany, M.D., professor and chair of the department of family and community health at the School of Medicine. “Your primary care physician knows you and your medical history when diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses and injuries as well as performing preventive check-ups and immunizations. The addition of these new physicians to the Marshall Health network ensures continued access to quality primary care across our region.”

The new physicians are:

Matthew Q. Christiansen, M.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the department of family and community health. Christiansen earned his medical degree from Marshall University. He is accepting new patients at Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Women’s and Family Medical Center at 1115 20th St., Huntington. For appointments, call 304-697-7000.

Matthew B. Curry, M.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the department of family and community health. Curry earned his medical degree from Marshall University. He is accepting new patients at Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Family Medical Center at 100 Meadow Pointe, Barboursville. For appointments, call 304-399-2990.

Carolyn A. Curtis, M.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the department of family and community health. Curtis earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She is accepting new patients at Marshall Family Medicine’s Village Medical Center at 659 Central Ave., Barboursville. For appointments, call 304-736-5247.

Katherine J. Steele, M.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the department of family and community health. Steele earned her medical degree from Marshall University. She is accepting new patients at the Coalfield Health Center at 386 Airport Road, Chapmanville, West Virginia, and Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Family Medical Center at 750 Oak Street, Kenova. Stephen Roy, M.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the department of internal medicine. Roy is a Huntington native and earned his medical degree from Marshall University. Ashley Zawodniak, D.O., has been appointed assistant professor in the department of internal medicine. A Huntington native, Zawodniak earned her medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
