Medical students selected for prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Six students at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine have been selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society, a professional medical organization that recognizes excellence in scholarship, leadership, professionalism and service. 

According to AOA, nearly 75 percent of the deans of U.S. medical schools are members of the organization, including Marshall’s Joseph I. Shapiro, M.D.

The new inductees for fall 2016 are:

  • Oksana A. Bailiff, Class of 2017
  • Adam R. Davis, Class of 2017
  • Corey A. Hamilton, Class of 2017
  • James “Jamie” E. Hatten, Class of 2017
  • Erika R. Maynard, Class of 2017
  • Matthew D. Thompson, Class of 2017

The inductees will be honored at a ceremony in spring 2017. 

The group’s faculty advisor is Sydnee McElroy, M.D., an assistant professor in the department of family and community health.
