Marshall School of Medicine selects Bishop as February Resident of the Month

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Charles “Chuck” Bishop, M.D., has been named Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Resident of the Month for February, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education at the school.

Bishop is completing his fifth and final year of the orthopaedics residency at Marshall. He was nominated by nursing staff, other healthcare providers and physicians for the award for his leadership, continual hard work and putting patients first.

“This month’s awardee had multiple nominations who painted an overall picture of him being an excellent surgeon as well as an outstanding leader and hard-working individual who puts the needs of his patients first,” Wehner said. “Dr. Bishop is well-known by all who work with him as being a great provider who goes above and beyond to make certain his patients and team members are well cared for.”

The St. Clairsville, Ohio, native earned his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and completed his undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University in Medical Sciences.

“Dr. Bishop is an excellent leader and mentor to junior residents though his interactions with attendings, nurses, therapists and other auxiliary staff,” said Matthew W. Bullock, D.O., associate residency program director for orthopaedic surgery. “Besides being an excellent surgeon, Chuck has a great personality and is a friend to all. It is a pleasure to see that have this well-deserving resident honored as the Resident of the Month.”

Bishop will join the orthopaedic clinical team at Holzer Health System in Gallipolis, Ohio, upon completion of his training in July 2019. As an orthopaedist, Bishop is trained to address a comprehensive approach to a range of disorders and damage that affect the bones, joints, cartilage, muscles, ligaments and tendons. 

As part of his recognition as the February Resident of the Month, Bishop received a plaque and designated parking spot.
