Marshall School of Medicine names Dr. Kasey Stickler October Resident of the Month

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Kasey Stickler, M.D., has been selected as Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Resident of the Month for October, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education at the school.

Stickler is completing her second year of the three-year family medicine residency. She was nominated for the Resident of the Month award by several faculty members and a senior resident.

“From day one of her intern year, Dr. Stickler has been lauded for functioning as a seasoned resident,” Wehner said. “Not many residents can successfully admitted 14 patients on the very first call night of her first rotation. Now during her second year, Dr. Stickler continues to display that incredible work ethic, exemplary medical knowledge and patient management skills well beyond her training level.”

Stickler completed her undergraduate and medical school degrees at Marshall University. While a medical student, the Wayne County, West Virginia, native and graduate of Spring Valley High School completed the Rural Family Medicine Scholar program with honors. She is also an inaugural member of the school of medicine’s rural residency program.

“Dr. Stickler has demonstrated a passion for care of rural patients by already moving her continuity office to our new rural residency program in Lavalette,” said Adam M. Franks, M.D., professor, vice chair for research for the department of family & community health, in his nomination of Stickler. “She is an incredible resident.”

After completing her residency in June 2020, Stickler plans to enter a sports medicine fellowship.

"Dr. Kasey Stickler is an excellent resident physician who takes a sincere interest in her patients and their care,” said Tammy Bannister, M.D., family medicine residency program director at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “She has a wonderful work ethic and often goes above and beyond to help assist her fellow residents when needed. She is an outstanding role model to medical students and junior residents.”

As part of her recognition as the October Resident of the Month, Stickler received a plaque and designated parking spot.
