HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine held its fourth White Coat Ceremony for its Physician Assistant (PA) Program Class of 2026 students Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center. The event was also livestreamed and is available for viewing at www.marshall.edu/livestream.

“My time as a student has already been incredibly rewarding,” said Derek Steele, a first-year student from Anchorage, Alaska. “Everything I am learning will affect the quality of care I am able to give to patients in the future.”

During the ceremony, 30 students received their white coats and recited the Physician Assistant Professional Oath.

"I chose the path of physician assistant to become a part of a meaningful patient-centered care team with the ability to directly impact patients’ lives,” said Kaden Evans, Class of 2026 PA student from Dunbar, West Virgnia.

Marshall University’s PA program is housed in the Robert W. Coon Education Building on the campus of the Hershel “Woody” Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington. The 28-month program was established in 2018 in response to increased demand for physician assistants across the nation’s health care workforce. The program’s inaugural class of 25 students graduated with their Master of Medical Science degrees in April 2023.
