Marshall Family Medicine co-sponsors global health conference

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—The Department of Family and Community Health at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, in collaboration with academic partners University of Louisville, University of Kentucky and University of Cincinnati Schools of Medicine, will kick off the 6th annual Global Health Conference Friday, April 17, at the University of Louisville’s Shelby Campus.

The conference, “Global Health Hits Home: Multi-Disciplinary Approaches to Public Health Challenges, Ebola and Beyond,” is open to physicians, allied health care providers, public health scientists, nurses, students, postdoctoral trainees and medical residents/fellows.

Dr. John Walden, professor emeritus in the department of family medicine, says Marshall’s longtime commitment to global health is a cornerstone of its program and the sponsorship of the global health conference is a natural fit.

“Opportunities we offer, like our international health residency track, health policy track and even the nation’s first wilderness medicine track, attract residents and medical students from around the country to our training programs and in many cases, they stay here in Appalachia to practice medicine,” Walden said.   “We are so pleased to co-sponsor this important event and are hopeful we will host it next year.”
