In Memoriam: Michael A. Krasnow, D.O., Ph.D.

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Michael Krasnow after a courageous battle with cancer.  Dr. Krasnow was a wonderful ophthalmologist, dedicated professor and beloved friend to many.

The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine as well as the practice of medicine in the tristate area are better today because of his outstanding service, leadership and dedication. Beginning in 1994, first in the Department of Family and Community Health and then as the founder and inaugural chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, Mike’s name became synonymous with outstanding Ophthalmological care and a “can-do, must-do” philosophy for all of his patients.

Mike was truly a stellar physician—caring for thousands of patients over the years. A three-time honoree on the list of “One of America’s Top Ophthalmologists,” Mike was an experienced cataract surgeon and was the only fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist in southern West Virginia. He had a fabulous technical skill set, but even more, he was absolutely committed to providing the best care for his patients.

The School of Medicine community extends our thoughts and prayers to Dr. Krasnow’s entire family, especially his wife, Lisa.

He will be greatly missed.
