Free summer pathway programs help students explore health careers

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine is accepting applications for two free summer programs designed to help high school and undergraduate students explore medical careers and prepare for medical school applications.

Health Care Pathways Initiative (HCPI) will be held June 1 through 27. This four-week residential program on Marshall’s campus introduces high school students from West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky to STEM and health care careers, including medicine, research, pharmacy, nursing, and engineering. Funded by the Army Educational Outreach Program’s UNITE initiative, with support from Marshall Health Network and Marshall’s schools of medicine and pharmacy. Apply by April 25th at jcesom.marshall.edu/HCPI.

Project PREMED, set for July 13-18, is an immersive, five-day residential experience that gives undergraduate students a firsthand look at medical school. Through hands-on activities and interactive sessions, students gain valuable insights into the application process, academic expectations, and the preparation needed for medical school success. Apply by May 2 at jcesom.marshall.edu/ProjectPREMED.

All programs are free for participants. For questions or more information about contact Shelvy Campbell-Monroe, Ph.D., MPH, associate dean for student outreach and engagement at 304.691.1607 or campbels@marshall.edu.
