- Dr. Zachary Davis named November Resident of the Month
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Zachary Davis, D.O., has been named the November Resident of the Month for the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean of graduate medical education.
Davis is completing his third and final year of the family medicine residency program at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. A Hindman, Kentucky, native, Davis has an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Kentucky followed by a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Davis was nominated by Courtney Wellman, M.D., an assistant professor of family and community health for his leadership in caring for his hometown when late summer flooding ravaged eastern Kentucky communities including Hindman. In addition, Davis continues to exemplify leadership in the clinic setting.
“Dr. Davis has truly gone above and beyond in the past few months to provide care to his community, support his co-residents and organize teaching opportunities,” Wellman said. “His dedication to serving their needs from medical to social is inspiring. This alone shows how he exceeds expectations within his career, but he does not stop there. He has assisted his co-residents by supporting them when they need assistance in knowledge, efficiency and wellness.”
“Third-year residents are very busy,” Wehner said. “To have a resident take the time to organize mobile health services and supply drives for his fellow Kentuckians who were affected by the recent flooding speaks volumes of the caliber of the trainee. Dr. Davis is well known among faculty and fellow residents for his willingness to help and lend support to others. It is truly a pleasure to recognize him with this honor.”
After completing his training in June 2023, Davis, his wife Briana and son Beckham, plan to move back to southeastern Kentucky, where he will join the Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation.
As part of his Resident of the Month recognition, Davis received a plaque and designated parking spot.
