Michael A. Krasnow, DO, PhD (1945-2015)

Michael Krasnow, DO, PhD, was a wonderful ophthalmologist, dedicated professor and beloved friend to many.

The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine as well as the practice of medicine in the tri-state area are better today because of his outstanding service, leadership and dedication. Beginning in 1994, first in the Department of Family & Community Health and then as the founder and inaugural chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, Mike’s name became synonymous with outstanding ophthalmological care and a “can-do, must-do” philosophy for all of his patients.

Dr. Krasnow was a stellar physician—caring for thousands of patients over the years. A three-time honoree on the list of “One of America’s Top Ophthalmologists,” Dr. Krasnow was an experienced cataract surgeon and was the only fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist in southern West Virginia. He had a fabulous technical skill set, but even more, he was absolutely committed to providing the best care for his patients.

Dr. Krasnow passed away Sept. 2, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer.
