Rebecca “Becca” Hayes, M.D., recognized as September Resident of the Month

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Rebecca “Becca” Hayes, M.D., has been selected as the September 2016 Resident of the Month, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.

Hayes is currently completing the third year of a four-year internal medicine/pediatrics residency program.  Under the combined program, graduates are board eligible in both internal medicine and pediatrics.

“With the recent importance placed on patient safety and quality improvement, Dr. Hayes stepped up and took a co-chair position on the newly-created House Staff Quality Improvement (QI) Council.  She is an excellent clinician who is truly concerned and passionate about ensuring the safety of our patients.  I look forward to seeing what the council accomplishes over the next year under the leadership provided by Dr. Hayes and council co-chair, Dr. Haris Kalatoudis,” Wehner said.

William “Skip” Nitardy, M.D., internal medicine/pediatrics residency director, said that he is excited about Dr. Hayes’ recognition.

“Becca is not only gifted at research and quality improvement but she is also outstanding clinically,” Nitardy said.   “She is a valued member of our program.  This recognition is much deserved.”

During residency, Hayes also is also completing a master’s degree in education in health professions (MEHP) from Johns Hopkins University. She graduated from the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and was selected for the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor and Gold Humanism Societies. Before medical school, Hayes received her undergraduate degree in biological sciences from Ohio University.

As part of her recognition as the September Resident of the Month, Hayes received items including a certificate of recognition and a designated parking spot.
