Insurance
  • Malpractice: Provided to the resident at no cost from the State of West Virginia's Comprehensive Liability Insurance Policy.
  • Health: Variety of plans/costs starting at $110/month and up depending upon coverage and tobacco use status.
  • Flexible Benefits: Dental and Vision care are availability.
  • Group Term Life:  No cost to the resident and begins the first day of the month coinciding with or following date of hire.  The life benefit is equal to 1.25 times the annual salary with a minimum $60,000 coverage. Additional life insurance can also be purchased for the resident/fellow and their dependents.
  • Social Security: Employee and Employer pay social security taxes. International medical graduates who provide a copy of their J-1 Visa to Payroll will be exempt from social security taxes.
  • Workers' Compensation: Coverage is provided.
  • Long Term Disability Insurance: Provided to resident at no charge
  • Short Term Disability Insurance:  If selected, the premiums and weekly benefit are based on age and 60% of annual salary up to $1,000 maximum weekly benefit.
Sick Leave Residents accrue 15 days of sick leave annually.

Book & Educational Fund Allowance

PGY1 - PGY5: $1000.00 annually

Conference Fund Allowance

Chief Residents may attend one conference during their PGY5 year with the approval of the Program Director.  The budgeted allowance for travel, accommodations, and meals is $1,500. The cost of conference registration is covered by the program.

Research & Scholarly Activity Fund Allowance

With the Program Director’s approval, residents may attend one meeting per year to present research posters or oral presentations. The Program will reimburse up to $1,500 toward travel and expenses.

Additional Research Funding

With the Program Director’s approval, residents may be reimbursed up to $500 annually toward other types of research and scholarly activity.  This funding can be used toward the costs for abstracts, publication fees to journals, registration fees of online research presentations, or surgical or medical association/society fees.
