Jason Brown, M.D., named Marshall’s June Resident of the Month

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Jason Brown, M.D. has been named Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s Resident of the Month for June, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education at the school.

“Dr. Brown is widely known for his ability to relate to his patients and of his quest to ensure they have the highest quality of health care experience possible,” Wehner said. “His passion for quality improvement led him to assume the chair’s position for the House Staff Quality Improvement Council’s for the past two years. His enthusiasm and passion for improving the health care delivery process has resulted in more residents actively participating in the Council and two successful Quality & Safety Summits in which the residents showcase their patient care improvement initiatives. We are appreciative of Dr. Brown’s leadership.”

Brown is completing his fifth and final year of the surgery residency at Marshall. He was also nominated for his professionalism and compassionate health care.

“Dr. Brown always puts his patients first,” said David Denning, M.D., chair of the department of surgery and residency program director. “His empathetic approach to patient care is to be commended. His communication with his patients helps them feel at ease and become more involved in their health decisions.”

Brown leaves Huntington at the end of June to start a trauma/critical care fellowship at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. During his fellowship, Brown will develop expertise in the management of the critically ill and postoperative patients, with a particular focus on trauma. He will specialize in critical care medicine diagnoses and treatment, including patients with multiple organ dysfunction.

The Oklahoma native received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, where he also earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology.

Brown credits his success to Rebecca, his wife of 16 years, and his five children. As part of his recognition as the June Resident of the Month, Brown received a plaque and designated parking spot.
