Ji's Spotlight

Research Spotlight

This spotlight will highlight the educational and professional journeys of the faculty and students.

Associate Professor, Ji Bihl, Ph.D., recently joined the department of biomedical sciences at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Bihl received her medical degree from Hengyang Medical College – University of South China. It was while she was receiving her medical degree, that she felt her professional efforts could have a much broader impact for human health if she focused on research. She went on to receive a doctoral degree from Peking University where her passion for research continued to grow.

While attending international conferences, she met many professors from the U.S. who encouraged her to consider continuing her research career in the states. Under the direction of Yanfang Chen, M.D., Ph.D., she began her post-doctoral training at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. During her post-doctoral training, she continued exploring her research interest in vascular diseases and diabetes to find potential biomarkers for disease prevention and treatments.

After completing her post-doctoral training, Bihl stayed at Wright State University as an assistant professor which helped in beginning her independent research career. As an assistant professor, she collaborated with various researchers from other universities, Marshall University being one of those.

Through the positive research environment, support, and collaborations she decided to join the Marshall University family. Since moving here, she has enjoyed local eateries in Pullman Square, particularly Black Sheep, and the local parks and recreation district. Additionally, she enjoys quality time with her kids by watching movies or playing around.

Bihl is always looking for self-starting, engaged and creative students to join her lab. She enjoys having a mix of undergraduate and graduate students who have similar research interests and is excited to educate Marshall University students.
