We are a dynamic department with both basic science academic and clinical responsibilities. Our mission is to serve the needs of the School of Medicine, the Huntington Tri-State community and West Virginia through excellence in research, teaching, and patient care.
Basic science faculty participate in the Biomedical Sciences program of interdisciplinary research and graduate student education. Clinical faculty collaborate with both clinicians and basic scientists in all departments to provide interpretation of histological and pathological studies. We offer histological services for preparation of tissues to support research.
The Department bridges basic science and clinical knowledge in the training of medical students. We are proud that the medical students consistently recognize both the Anatomy and the Pathology sections for excellence in teaching.
Our clinical pathologists provide sophisticated diagnostic and consultative services for patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings at Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.
